*NEED A PERMIT 14 COURTS TOTAL (one currently out of use, one used for lessons). Similar style to Central Park. Good alternative if you live in Astoria or surrounding area. There is a manager that has a paper with a list of courts. To reserve a court for the next hour, you write your/partnerโ€™s name along with last 4 digits of permit number on that sheet. Usually they donโ€™t confirmโ€ฆ You can reserve a court for the next hour at the earliest 40 min before the next hour (unlike Central Park, there is no advance reserve for later hours in the day. Sign up for 1-2 opens at 12:20). I recommend getting there about 50 min before because there is a line that forms to sign up (and you probably donโ€™t want to miss it). Chances are if you sign up 10 min before the hour there will be no spots left.

There is a bully around these courts, named Mladen, who has a tennis lesson set up and announced called Pro Tennis Lesson, which is only legally valid for 1 court, but instead he uses two at a time on a daily basis (which is illegal). On top of that, he thinks that he has the right to threaten and kick other people out when he needs a court for his own lessons. To provide additional context, Mladen has been extremely disrespectful today on these courts. He just threatened my partner and myself for no other reason but hitting on court with both of our permits during our court time reservation. I strongly advise you to avoid hitting with him. He is a bully.

Came all the way form the Bronx to play tennis, ITS NOT FREE, you need a permit. Courts looked nice and well kept, but taxpayers pay for this and it requires a permit still. Every other park dosent. Makes no sense donโ€™t come here expecting free courts.

The courts are alright and do the job for playing tennis. Yes, you do need a permit. My biggest issue is half the time when I arrive 35 to 45 minutes ahead, the courts are often booked. The attendants can also have an attitude at times and are also very strict about sign up times...can't sign up more than 40 minutes ahead, yet there have been occasions when there is no attendant people will sign up for 2 -3 hour blocks so even if you arrive earlier, all courts are taken. It's a crapshoot at best. Unfortunately, there is no option to book online so lots of luck if you arrive at the location at the right time (an hour ahead) and can actually get a court.
